Is the 80/20 rule really true?
I'm sure you've probably heard this already because its a common thing for people to throw out there in facebook groups or blog posts about starting a new business.
You'll start a business based on your passion for photography and then you'll actually only spend 20% of your time actually doing photography. The other 80% of the time will be spent behind your computer or doing boring business/administrative tasks.
I hate to break it to you, but the reason so many people say this is because it actually really is true.

This is why I always tell those that I coach with that how your view this new venture makes all the difference when it comes to achieving your goals.
Viewing your business AS A business with an understanding that running a business is different than just taking photos. If you really enjoy taking photos, capturing memories and creating art, that is FANTASTIC but be honest with yourself about what you actually want to DO with that.
If you want to keep your interest in photography at hobby level, there is NOTHING wrong with that. You just have to realize you can't treat this thing you are doing as a hobby but expect business-y type results.
Your expectations need to be aligned with your mindset.
If you want to build your photography business into a successful and profitable venture, there is no getting out of it....you'll have to do a lot of things that have nothing to do with photography or taking photos. Either you have to do them or you have to hire someone to do them, but either way they have to be done.
So yes, it is really true, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you might find that the other stuff isn't all that bad if you know
what you have to do
when to do them
and have resources available when you need them.
